    Where We Install Stamped Concrete

    Stamped Patios

The most common job. A 14 × 20 ft stamped patio replaces the plain gray slab behind most Houston tract homes and leaves room for a table, grill and chairs. We pitch it 1/4 inch per foot toward the yard so storm water never sits against the house slab.

    Stamped Pool Decks

Pool decks get a textured pattern, a light color and a sealer with grit added, so bare feet grip when the deck is wet. We stop the stamp at the coping and cut joints that line up with the pool corners.

    Stamped Driveways

Stamped driveways use the same 4-inch reinforced slab as a broom-finish driveway, with a pattern pressed in before the concrete sets. Expect $12–$20 per sq ft. A stamped border around a broom-finish center cuts that cost while keeping the curb view.

    Stamped Walkways and Entries

Front walks and side-yard paths often take a border pattern that matches the patio. Walkways are 4 inches thick and usually 3–5 ft wide. Commercial entries and restaurant patios get the same treatment through our commercial crew.

    Patterns and Colors

We bring stamp mats and color samples to the estimate so you can see them on your own lot in daylight. The patterns Houston homeowners pick most:

    Ashlar slate
rectangles of mixed sizes with a cut-stone edge. Hides control joints well.
    Cobblestone
small rounded stones; good on driveways and entry aprons.
    Random stone
irregular flagstone shapes for a looser, garden look.
    Wood plank
board grain in 6- or 8-inch widths; popular around pools.
    European fan
arcs of small stones; used for borders and circles.
    Herringbone brick
a tight brick pattern for walks and formal entries.

Color comes in two layers. A base color goes into the mix (integral color) or is broadcast on the surface (color hardener). An accent color comes from the release agent left in the grout lines. Common Houston pairings: sandstone with walnut release, gray slate with charcoal, and terra cotta with brown.

    Stamped concrete patio in Houston

Typical project, Clear Lake: a cracked 1990s 12 × 20 ft broom patio torn out and replaced with an ashlar slate pattern in sandstone with walnut release and an anti-slip sealer. Four working days from tear-out to sealer. Typical cost with tear-out: $3,350–$5,750.

    Built for Houston

Built for Houston: Clay, Humidity and Pool Heat

A stamped slab sits on the same expansive Beaumont clay as any other slab, so the pattern only lasts as long as the base under it. We cut out soft clay, compact the base and set #3 rebar at 18 inches on chairs. Control joints go every 8–10 ft, cut along grout lines in the pattern so they read as part of the design.

Flat lots matter here too. With no natural fall, a patio that is poured level holds water in every texture line. We set a slope of 1/8–1/4 inch per foot and, where a yard already ponds, tie the low edge into a French drain or gutter outlet before we pour.

Gulf Coast humidity drives the sealer choice. Solvent-based acrylic sealers can turn milky when moisture gets trapped under them, which shows up fast after a humid week. We seal on a dry day after the slab has cured, keep coats thin, and use a breathable formula on slabs that stay damp. UV-stable sealers slow color fade on west-facing patios.

Around pools, color choice changes how the deck feels in July. Light tones such as sandstone and buff stay noticeably cooler underfoot than charcoal or red. Every pool deck sealer gets an anti-slip grit mixed in. These are typical specs; your engineer's plans govern when a project has them.

How Much Does Stamped Concrete Cost in Houston?

Stamped concrete in Houston typically runs $12–$18 per sq ft for one pattern and one color, and $18–$25 per sq ft for multi-color work, borders or hand-tooled edges. Typical Houston ranges:

    JobPer sq ftExampleExample total
    Stamped patio, single color$12–$1814 × 20 ft (280 sq ft)$3,350–$5,050

Cost drivers: removing an old slab adds $2–$6 per sq ft; a second release color, saw-cut borders or hand-tooled edges move a job into the multi-color range; backyard access that needs a concrete pump adds about 10%; and curved layouts take more stamping time than squares.

    Care and Resealing Schedule

    First 7 days
foot traffic only; no furniture dragging; no cars on stamped driveways.
    Every few months
rinse with a hose or a pressure washer on a wide fan tip held 12 inches off the surface.
    Every 2–3 years
clean and reseal. Pool decks and west-facing patios in full sun often need it closer to every 2 years.
    Avoid
pool chemicals left standing on the deck and rubber-backed mats that trap moisture under the sealer.

    FAQ

    Stamped Concrete FAQ

Still deciding? Call or text (512) 749-7448.

How much does stamped concrete cost per sq ft in Houston?

Stamped concrete in Houston typically costs $12–$18 per sq ft for a single pattern and color. Multi-color work, borders and hand-tooled edges run $18–$25 per sq ft.

Stamped concrete or pavers in Houston?

Stamped concrete usually costs less than pavers and has no sand joints to wash out or sprout weeds. Pavers are easier to fix one unit at a time when clay settles, so they suit areas over utility lines.

Does stamped concrete crack in clay soil?

Yes, stamped concrete can crack when Houston clay moves, like any slab. A compacted base, rebar on chairs and control joints cut along the grout lines keep cracks controlled and hard to spot.

Is stamped concrete slippery or hot around pools?

Sealed stamped concrete gets slick when wet unless the sealer has anti-slip grit, which we add on every pool deck. Light colors such as sandstone stay much cooler underfoot than dark ones.

How often should stamped concrete be resealed in Houston?

Reseal stamped concrete in Houston every 2–3 years. Pool decks and patios in full afternoon sun often need it closer to every 2 years.

Can you stamp over an existing patio?

Sometimes: a sound, uncracked patio can take a stamped overlay 1/4 to 3/4 inch thick. Patios with settled or broken panels do better torn out and repoured, and we check yours at the estimate visit.
